WaPo report says Donald Trump told Don Junior to say Russian meeting was about adoptions
Aaron Blake of the Washington Post reported that Donald Trump Sr. told Donald Trump Jr. to say the Russian meeting was about adoptions.
Blake wrote, “Sources say White House advisers had decided to be transparent about the meeting, but the president changed the game plan at the last minute to misleadingly suggest that the meeting was about adoption.”
On July 8, 2017, the New York Times reported that Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and then Trump Presidential Campaign Manager Paul Manafort all met with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya and others about getting dirt on Hillary Clinton.
Initially, Junior, his brother-in-law Kushner, and Manafort denied the meeting took place.
But then, the New York Times told Junior that they had emails, detailing the meeting between him, his brother-in-law, Manafort, and the Russians.
The New York Times move forced Junior to tweet out his emails which verified the New York Times’ stories about the Russian meeting.
In the subject area of one of the emails was the title, “Russia-Clinton-private and confidential.”
Rob Goldstone sent the email to Donald Jr., who then sent the email to Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort.
Rob Goldstone is an important player in all of this because he has connections with Russian pop star Emin Agalarov whose father, Russian Businessman Ara Agalarov, helped Donald Trump bring the 2013 Miss Universe Pageant to Moscow.
Goldstone and the Agalarovs set up the meeting between Junior, Kushner, Manafort, and the Russians.
Mind you, Kushner has told everyone that he didn’t know what the meeting was about or who was going to be in attendance.
Also, it was due to Kushner updating his security clearance form that led to Junior having to detail the meeting with the Russians.
For his part, Junior has gone from saying that the meeting was about adoptions to it being about opposition research.
However, Junior’s constant changing of his story, as well as the fact that Hillary Clinton is Vladimir Putin’s most hated foe, has led to his explanation falling on deaf ears.
Plus, there’s the Magnitsky Act which was signed when Clinton was the secretary of state.
The law is named after Russian lawyer Sergei L. Magnitsky who some believe was murdered because of his uncovering of corruption in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s administration.
Putin denies these claims and says he had nothing to do with Magnitsky’s death.
The one important thing the law does is freeze Russians’ assets in the U.S. and its territories.
Due to Donald Trump’s connections to the Agalarovs, who helped bring the 2013 Miss Universe Pageant to Moscow, there are concerns that Trump wants to repeal the Magnitsky Act in order to allow Russians access to their assets.
Are you getting it yet? The Russians helped fill up Trump’s bank account by bringing the Miss Universe Pageant to Moscow and now it’s time for him to repay the favor by getting the Magnitsky Act repeal so the Russians can get their money and other properties.
The problem Trump faces is that he not only has ties to the Russians, but it is increasingly looking as if his lawyer, Jay Sekulow, was not truthful when asked if Donald Trump “was involved in drafting” Junior’s statement and if Trump Senior “signed off” on the statement.
Aaron Blake quoted Jay Sekulow as saying to NBC’s Chuck Todd, “-but I do want to be clear-that the president was not involved in the drafting of the statement and did not issue the statement. It came from Donald Trump Jr.”
If the Washington Post is correct, Trump is in a hot mess. Trump, of course, denies all of this.
But the fact that Russian lawyer Veselnitskaya, Trump Seinor’s son Junior, son-in-law Kushner, former Campaign Manager Manafort, and several others are willing to talk does not help Trump Senior’s situation.
Further, the Republican National Committee (RNC) is letting Donald Trump Sr. know that anything on the RNC’s server that is associated with the Russian investigation will be preserved.
The Hill quoted the RNC’s counsel as saying, “Given the important role that the RNC plays in national elections and the potentially expansive scope of the inquiries and investigations, it is possible that we will be contacted with requests for information. Therefore, we must preserve all documents potentially relevant to these matters until they are resolved or until we are informed by all necessary parties that preservation is no longer necessary.”
And oh yeah, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway both attempted to explain Donald Trump Sr.'s role in drafing Donald Trump Jr.'s letter by saying that Senior was "just a concerned father" trying to help out his 39-year-old kid.
Yeah, that.
